Outlander Season 3 is still a while away, but that doesn't stop die-hard fans from needing to know all the developments about what is in store for Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe).

First, the season will be based on Voyager, the third book in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander novel series. It will see Claire return to 18th Century Scotland after telling her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and historian Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin) about her adventures in the past. The good news is that production has already started on the third season, and Starz has already picked Outlander up for a fourth season as well.

We will see the Battle of Culloden: The first photo of Sam Heughan on set for Season 3 arrived in September, showing our favorite ginger in bloody clothing after the big battle. Executive producers have already revealed that the season premiere will show what happened on the field before Jamie escaped with his life, and fans will absolutely get to see the final duel between Jamie and Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies).

Fergus is all grown up: Some time will have definitely passed by the time Claire, Brianna and Roger make their way back through the stones. We know because Cesar Domboy has been cast as a grown-up version of the Frasers' adopted son. We will also meet Lauren Lyle as Marsali, Laoghaire's (Nell Hudson) grown-up daughter. She and Fergus are a romantic item in Gabaldon's novel.

Outlander: 10 burning questions we have for Season 3

There are more new faces: Starz has also announced the casting of John Bell as Jamie's nephew, Ian. He's described as a tall, gangly Scottish lad with a heart of gold, a stubborn streak and a penchant for getting into trouble. Wil Johnson also joins the cast as Joe Abernathy, a medical colleague of Claire's when she gets her surgical license in Boston during the 20th Century.

We'll also see Frank and Claire's marriage: What was Claire's life like during the 20 years she lived with Frank (also Menzies) and thought that Jamie was dead? Gabaldon told TVGuide.com that she's seen early cuts of the first four episodes of the season already and that Frank is a lot more present than he was in her books in order to show what Claire went through during their years married to each other.

Outlander returns to Starz in 2017.
