CAN THE EMMYS BE SAVED?

Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich has been tapped to revamp this year's Emmys telecast, airing Sept. 18 on CBS. In a bid to reverse the awards show's ratings slide — in 2004, the Emmys drew its second-smallest audience ever — some changes are already planned, including pretaped speeches from directors and writers and fewer awkward shout-outs from Allison Janney to Mariska Hargitay.
