After a new Emmys rule redefined a comedy as any series whose episodes run 30 minutes or less, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced a few exceptions.

32 must-see new shows

According to Entertainment Weekly, Glee, Shameless and Jane the Virgin will be allowed to compete as comedies. Glee and Shameless have both previously competed as comedies, although the latter originally competed as a drama for three seasons.

However, Orange Is the New Black, which competed as a comedy last year, has not been announced as another exception. But according to EW, these were only the "first decisions" made by the nine-member panel in charge of eligibility.
