Veep Wins Outstanding Comedy Series for the Second Year in a Row

For the second year in a row, Emmy voters made the right choice. HBO's sharp political satire Veep once again took home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards.

The Julia Louis-Dreyfus vehicle beat out ABC comedies Black-ish and Modern Family, fellow HBO comedy Silicon Valley, Amazon's Transparent, and Netflix's Master of None and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Veep has been fairly beloved by Emmys voters over the years, but this year's win feels particularly bittersweet as it is for the the show's first season without creator Armando Iannucci at the helm. However, it's pretty clear the Brit left behind a well-oiled machine that even Selina Meyer can't screw up.

Since Veep debuted in 2012, Louis-Dreyfus has had a firm handle on the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and it doesn't look like she's going to let it go any time soon. The actress, who has been nominated a whopping 22 times, has won the Emmy every year since the show's creation, including this year, which brings her total awards for Veep to five and her total Emmy haul to eight.

Meanwhile, Tony Hale has won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy twice, first in 2013 and again in 2015. He was nominated in 2014 and 2016. Lastly, Anna Chlumsky has been nominated for supporting actress four times, while Matt Walsh finally broke into the supporting actor race this year.

Somewhere out there Jonah Ryan is probably taking credit for this, but everyone knows that's a lie.
