Eagles Guitarist and Co-Founder Glenn Frey Dies at 67
He had been suffering from intestinal issues.
Glenn Frey, the Eagles' lead guitarist and co-founder, has died age 67 due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. The news was posted on the band's official Facebook page on Monday.
"The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery," reads the post. "Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide." The band also included the lyrics to "It's Your World Now" from its 2007 album Long Road Out of Eden.

Frey had been battling intestinal issues for a while. His condition caused the band to defer its Kennedy Center Honors induction last month for a year. The band said at the time that Frey needed surgery that would require a long recovery, but Frey was never able to recover.
In 1971, along with Don Henley, Frey co-founded the Eagles, who became icons of easygoing rock. He co-wrote some of the band's biggest hits, including "Hotel California" and "Desperado," and won six Grammys with the group. He sang lead on such songs as "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Already Gone," Lyin' Eyes" and "Heartache Tonight."
As a solo artist, Frey released five albums and scored his biggest hit with "The Heat Is On," which was featured on the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. His song "Smuggler's Blues" inspired a 1985 Miami Vice episode, in which Frey made his acting debut as a pilot. Frey went on to recur on Wiseguysand starred as a detective on CBS' South of Sunset, which was canceled after one episode in 1993. His other acting credits include Nash Bridges, Arli$$and Jerry Maguire.

"I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet. It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it," Henley added. "But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life. Rest in peace, my brother. You did what you set out to do, and then some."

Frey, who is the third celebrity icon who's died so far in 2016 after David Bowie and Alan Rickman, is survived by his wife Cindy, and three kids, Taylor, Deacon and Otis.
