Katherine Kelly will star
BBC America has announced the cast of the upcoming Doctor Whospin-off Class, which will include U.K. TV veteran Katherine Kelly.
Kelly (Coronation Street, Happy Valley) will star as a teacher and powerful new presence at London's Coal Hill School, which will serve as the dangerous setting of the new series.
"All the time travelling over the years has caused the very walls of space and time to become thin," BBC America describes the school. "There's something pressing in on the other side, something waiting for its chance to kill everyone and everything, to bring us all into Shadow."
Newcomers Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah will play students in Class, which is being dubbed a BritishBuffy the Vampire Slayer.
Steven Moffat departs Doctor Who
Class was created by young adult writer Patrick Ness and will be executive-produced by former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat.
Class isn't the first Doctor Who spin-off. BBC previously aired Torchwood, which followed Captain Jack's (John Barrowman) adventures, and The Sarah Jane Adventures, about Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen), in addition to a few animated series.
