But fans won't have to wait until Season 8 kicks off to see more of the Doctor. The show will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Nov. 23 with a 3D special featuring current and former stars Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, David Tennant, Billie Piper, John Hurt and more.

Later this year, the BBC will also air An Adventure in Space and Time, a movie that examines the history and creation of Doctor Who. And the show will also continue the annual tradition of airing a Christmas special around the holidays, according to the BBC.
