It's been a scary 24 hours for DMX. The rapper, born Earl Simmons, was found unconscious and not breathing in a Ramada Inn parking lot in Westchester, N.Y. on Monday night. The Daily News reports that police found DMX and then performed CPR and were able to get him breathing again after approximately one minute.

The rapper was then taken to a nearby hospital. The Associated Press learned from DMX's lawyer that he has since been released. Friend and producer Swizz Beatz also tweeted, "He's good and in great spirits."

The "X Gon Give it to Ya" rhymer was initially suspected of suffering an asthma attack, but no official report has been filed to that effect. "This was an excellent job by the officers and they definitely saved the life," Lt. Patrick McCormack told The Daily News, though he legally wasn't able to say the rapper's name. "They found him in a lifeless condition with no breathing. They were able to bring back some breathing."

The rapper, who has been arrested nearly 20 times, has sought treatment for his substance abuse issues, including an appearance on Iyanla Vanzant's Fix My Life, which ended in the rapper storming off the show and threatening to sue for what he called exploitation.
