Is Diane Dating Jack?

In Lifetime's On Thin Ice, Diane Keaton plays a desperate, widowed mom who resorts to selling methamphetamines to keep food on her family's table. Keaton, 57, says she wanted to play the gun-toting, crystal-smoking character — based on a real woman who's now in the witness protection program — to bring attention to the plight of poverty-line parents. "I don't understand how these people get by," she says. But Keaton hasn't left lighter fare behind. She stars with Jack Nicholson in the romantic comedy Something's Gotta Give (opening Dec. 12). TV Guide Online: In On Thin Ice, you load up a shotgun and let the bad guy have it. Did you need firearm training?
Keaton:
Yes I did. I hated it. It's a scary thing to have a gun in your hands. They should be left alone.

TVGO: The same can be said about crystal meth!
Keaton:
The killer thing about this drug is that it gives you the illusion that you can do anything. You can finally handle it all. And, of course, it comes back to bite you in the ass.

TVGO: Where was the movie shot? It looked so cold and awful, like you were in hell.
Keaton:
We were. We were literally in the hell of Winnepeg, in the middle of winter. But wasn't it beautiful? Wasn't it amazing? Didn't it make you really feel? The location was a character in this movie.

TVGO: Your character spends a lot of time shuttling between drug clients in what appeared to be a very crappy station wagon. Were you glad to say good-bye to that car?
Keaton:
No, I was only too happy to see that car, because there was a heater in the car. That car was my friend in more ways than one. I loved that car. I will never, ever do anything but honor that car.

TVGO: Speaking of honoring things, Woody Allen is rumored to be writing a tell-all book that includes dish about his romance with you.
Keaton:
(Laughs) Well, I'd be honored to be part of it. I mean, what can I do? That's interesting. I bet if he writes it, it'll be very good.

TVGO: Would you be interested in writing your own memoirs?
Keaton:
I don't really think [my life] is all that interesting. But I can't wait to read everybody else's.

TVGO: There are also rumors that you're dating Jack Nicholson. Are you?
Keaton:
That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. I mean, I now know Jack, because we made a movie, and we spent a lot of time together and he's a good friend of mine. And that's thrilling for me. But no, we're not dating.

TVGO: You're giggling.
Keaton:
I am, because it's so funny. I'm picturing Jack as he's hearing this. He's probably laughing, too.

TVGO: But I bet he'd be a fun date.
Keaton:
He's a fun date. As a friend, as a pal, he's great. As a romantic person, I... you know, I don't really know. It's sweet that anyone would even think that I could be capable of being in a situation like that. So, I'm honored. Alright?

On Thin Ice airs Nov. 3 at 9 pm/ET on Lifetime.
