Debra Messing is the latest star to join Lionsgate TV's Dirty Dancing musical on ABC. She'll play Marjorie Houseman, mother to Abigail Breslin's Baby, the role originated by Kelly Bishop (Gilmore Girls) in the 1987 film.

This is of course not Messing's first time getting involved in the musical genre. She was a co-star on NBC's Smash, but she avoided singing and dancing on the series. Marjorie doesn't have any big dance numbers in the original film, but fingers crossed fans will get to see Messing do a two-step or a nice waltz in the remake.

Abigail Breslin to star in Dirty Dancing remake for ABC

Dirty Dancing original screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein will executive-produce the remake; The L Word's Jessica Sharzer will write the script. The film has also nabbed Hamilton's choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler. The Sapphires' Wayne Blair will direct.

No casting news yet about who puts Baby in a corner or who will take her out of it.
