Former New York Knicks player Dean "The Dream" Meminger was found dead on Friday, The New York Timesreports. He was 65.

 The body of Meminger, a first round draft pick for the Knicks in 1971, was discovered in a Casablanca Hotel room after he failed to check out on time. He was pronounced dead on the scene. An official cause of death has not yet been revealed, but officials said there were no signs of trauma.

Meminger battled a cocaine addiction for years and even admitted using during his days in the NBA. In 2009, Meminger, who helped the Knicks clinch the NBA title in 1973, was critically injured by a fire in his room in a building in the Bronx.
"We want to thank everyone for their prayers and condolences during this difficult time for our family," his family said in a statement.
