Dave Chappelle Is Bringing Three Stand-Up Specials to Netflix

Hosting Saturday Night Live wasn't a fluke; Dave Chappelle is coming all the way back.

Netflix announced Monday that the comedian will be releasing three stand-up specials on its streaming service in 2017: one all-new special produced by Netflix, and two from Chappelle's personal vault, previously recorded at Austin City Limits Live and The Hollywood Palladium. The specials are slated to be released simultaneously sometime in 2017.

The specials will be Chappelle's first since 2004's For What It's Worth.

Chappelle has done very little TV work since walking away from his beloved sketch series Chappelle's Show in 2005. After a few years of sporadic appearances, he heavily returned to stand-up in 2013, performing nearly 500 shows in the past three years, but hadn't done televised stand-up until his instant classic monologue on SNL after the election earlier this month.

"Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy -- searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential," Lisa Nishimura, Netflix's VP of Original Documentary and Comedy, said in a statement. "Dave's three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix."
Netflix also recently secured the stand-up special return of another iconic comedian, Chris Rock, who will be producing two specials for the streaming service, the first of which will tape next year. Rock is reportedly being paid $40 million for the specials. The terms of Chappelle's deal are not publicly known. Rock and Chappelle appeared together on SNL on Nov. 12.
