Her knee injury is more serious than we thought

Note: this story has been updated from its previous version, to reflect a statement from a Dancing with the Stars representative.

Sharna Burgess, partner of race car driver James Hinchcliff on Dancing with the Stars, may possibly be out for the rest of the season due to a reactivated knee injury, according to TMZ. Though a rep from Dancing with the Stars would only confirm Burgess will not dance in Monday night's broadcast, the site reports that Burgess' doctors want her off the knee entirely for the next three to six weeks with less than a month left in the competition.

The pro re-injured her knee during last week's dress rehearsal, but made it through that night's broadcast with a brace -- putting Hinchcliffe at the top of the leaderboard just two weeks before the semi-finals.

If Burgess doesn't return, would Hinchcliffe be able to overcome the curveball of switching partners this late in the game? He became a surprise contender in the competition early on and has more than once landed the top score over Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, who was the crowd favorite to win before the season started.

Hinchcliffe has the most natural dancing talent of any Dancing with the Stars contestant in years though, so he might be able to overcome. Still, making to the finals without Burgess would be bittersweet.

Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays at 8/9c on ABC.
