Movie buffs who have been mourning since FilmStruck shut down in November have reason to celebrate: The Criterion Collection is launching its new streaming platform on April 8.

The Criterion Channel will offer access to more than 1,000 classic and contemporary films from around the world, as well as nightly thematic programming, a Sunday Spotlight series, and Criterion's Adventures in Moviegoing, a guest-curated series that has featured the likes of Barry Jenkins and Guillermo del Toro in the past, as well as many other series.

According to a release from Criterion, subscribers who sign up after the April 8 launch will pay $10.99 per month or $99.99 annually after a 30-day free trial. But film aficionados can sign up now as "charter subscribers" for reduced pricing ($9.99 per month or $89.99 annually) and an extended free trial, as well as access to concierge customer service, a holiday gift certificate, and access to the prelaunch Movie of the Week series, which kicks off this week with the 4K restoration of Elaine May's 1976 gangster film Mikey and Nicky.

The Criterion Collection films were previously available through FilmStruck, a streaming service that also housed classic films from MGM and Turner Classics. WarnerMedia shuttered the service last year due to a shift in strategy.

The Criterion Channel service will be available on desktop, Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, iOS and Android devices.
