Courtney Love Changes Her Name

The rock star formally known as Courtney Love is done with her stage name, telling NME magazine, "Courtney Love is dead."

"We love her when she goes onstage, but I don't need her in the rest of my life," she said. "The name Courtney Love is a way to oppress me."

The 45-year-old Hole frontwoman would like to be addressed as Courtney Michelle. Her given name is Courtney Michelle Harrison.

The singer adds that she is "sick" of talking about her late husband, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

"I am not his spokesperson on Earth," she said. "I don't know what he'd be like now. He could be into society girls, he could be into fat girls, he could be homosexual. We don't know, he died at 27."

Love Michelle is currently touring with Hole, whose new album, Nobody's Daughter, is scheduled to arrive this month.
