Cop Suing Evi Quaid Over Posted Sign

The Texas cop who arrested Randy and Evi Quaid for allegedly ducking out on an $10,000-odd hotel tab in Santa Barbara, Calif., is suing Evi for defamation.

Deputy James Davis is filing the suit over a sign Evi allegedly posted across from City Hall that read, "Deputy James Davis Take Payouts, Call + Make Offers," according to E!

"Deputy Davis filed a suit in Presidio County Court today for defamation," Davis' attorney, Jason Snell, said. "Evi accused him of engaging in criminal activity. He wants to set the record straight. He's been damaged and embarrassed by this."

In September, the couple was arrested in Marfa, Texas, on a felony warrant on charges of burglary, conspiracy and defrauding an innkeeper. The two were released on bail after paying $20,000 each.
