Former Scandal star Columbus Short was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in jail for violating his probation stemming from previous assault charges, The Associated Press reports.

Short tested positive for cocaine and marijuana in April. In 2014, Short was sentenced to three years' probation and 30 days of community service after he pled no contest to misdemeanor spousal battery. He was also charged with battery after getting into an altercation at a restaurant. The actor was dropped from Scandal in the wake of those incidents.

During Wednesday's court appearance, prosecutors said Short has not completed any community service. Short's lawyer noted that the actor's sister passed away last week.

As part of his sentence, Short is also required to spend six months in a live-in rehab facility.
