After a lengthy manhunt,  police cornered ex-cop Christopher Dorner in a cabin outside of Big Bear, Calif., where a gun battle took place on Tuesday. By evening, the cabin had caught fire and Dorner was allegedly found dead, according to KTLA news. However, at a news conference held late Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the San Bernadino Police Department would not confirm that a body was found inside the cabin, saying that it was still too hot for authorities to investigate the scene. "We believe [the suspect] is still inside the cabin that caught fire," she said. "It is too hot [to enter]."

The shooting began in the afternoon after Dorner, who had evaded police since Wednesday night, reportedly stole a car and barricaded himself in the cabin. According to Los Angeles Police Department Commander Andrew Smith, two officers were injured during the battle and airlifted to a local hospital. One of the deputies died en route while the other was expected to make it through surgery.

According to CBS reporter Carter Evans, when the cabin first ignited, a single gunshot was heard, which could be have resulted from Dorner firing his gun or ammunition catching fire inside. Authorities believed the suspect remained inside the burning cabin. It is unclear whether Dorner took his own life or was killed during the fire.

Dorner was named a suspect in a series of shooting attacks earlier in the month that left three people dead, including one police officer. He also released a 6,000-word "manifesto" on his Facebook page that detailed his anger with the LAPD for firing him five years ago.
