Christina Hendricks: My Agency Dropped Me When I Joined Mad Men

HBO executives famously passed on Mad Men when it was initially being shopped around, and apparently they weren't the only ones who were skeptical about the show's chances of success.

In an interview with the UK's Guardian, star Christina Hendricks reveals that her agency dropped her upon learning that she had signed on to the show.

"They said, 'It's a period piece, it's never going to go anywhere. We need you to make money and this isn't going to make money,'" Hendricks, who plays secretary-turned-partner Joan Harris, recalls. "They ended up dropping me."

Now, eight years later, the cast recently finished filming the series finale. And it was a bittersweet occasion, according to Hendricks. On the last day of shooting, the cast hung out drinking and reminiscing until 8 a.m. the following day. "We all just stuck around," she said. "We didn't want to leave."
