The Voice alum Christina Grimmie was shot dead Friday when a gunman opened fire as she signed autographs after a concert in Florida, The Associated Press reports. She was 22.

Grimmie, who finished in third place on Season 6 of The Voice as a protégé of coach Adam Levine, was attacked at a merchandise table after performing with the band Before You Exit at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Fla. Her brother tackled the gunman after he shot Grimmie, and police credit him with preventing other people from being injured. The gunman committed suicide by shooting himself while he was struggling with Grimmie's brother.

Police have not identified the assailant, who had two guns on him, or determined a reason why he attacked Grimmie.

Levine and The Voice paid tribue to Grimmie on social media, with Levine posting a photo before Grimmie's death had been confirmed.
