Chris Brown to Be Sentenced

Chris Brown will be formally sentenced Wednesday for felony assault on Rihanna, who is still asking that restricted contact between the two be reduced.

Brown, who pleaded guilty in June, is expected to be sentenced to five years' probation and 180 days of community labor at a Los Angeles Court. During the preliminary hearing, Brown was ordered to stay at least 50 yards away from Rihanna — 10 yards if at industry events. Rihanna's attorney, Donald Etra, will again ask for the stay-away order to be reduced to one that allows communication between the two, the Associated Press reports.Etra told TVGuide.com that Judge Patricia Schnegg would consider easing restrictions after August.Rihanna is not expected to attend the sentencing. Brown told fans in a July 20 video that he was "truly, truly sorry" and that he has repeatedly apologized to Rihanna. "I am very sad and very ashamed of what I've done. My mother and my spiritual teachers taught me way better than that," Brown said. "I've told Rihanna countless times and I'm telling you today, that I'm truly, truly sorry that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better."Brown turned himself into police the night of the Grammys on Feb. 8. Police said a woman, who was later identified as Rihanna, reported she had been attacked by Brown hours before the show.
