6 Reasons You Should Ship Nick and Sabrina in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2

Gavin Leatherwood explains why these two are MFEO

When Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was first announced, we expected to have our hearts melted by the iconic couple of Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) and Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch), who have been together since Sabrina the Teenage Witch comics started in the '60s and were the center of the '90s sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart. Although the high school sweethearts did enchant us at the beginning of the show's first season, our hearts were actually spellbound by a suave warlock we never saw coming.

Nicholas Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood) -- Nick to his friends -- showed up to help Sabrina learn the ropes of her witch school, the Academy of the Unseen Arts. He was an "expositional character," according to Leatherwood, but over the back half of Season 1's ten episodes, we learned that there's a lot more to Nick than meets the eye, and we want to see him reveal those depths to Sabrina.

Don't get us wrong, Harvey is extremely cute. We totally believe that he loves Sabrina, but is he really the man she needs as she continues along her path to witchy greatness? He still has some growing to do in that department, and in the meantime it really seems like Nick is ready to step up to the plate. TV Guide talked to Leatherwood about Nick's chemistry with Sabrina and compiled a list of all the reasons you should be shipping these two for the upcoming second season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

1. Just like Sabrina, Nick excels at school
Sabrina is an overachiever, which can be a strain on a relationship unless your partner is equally ambitious. From the moment Nick laid out his schedule at The Academy of the Unseen Arts we were impressed with his drive. According to Leatherwood, Nick is one of the top warlocks at the academy, and that's someone we can definitely see getting along with Sabrina's desire to to be the best.

"He has a strong desire and passion at the academy, with his magic, and everything," Leatherwood explained. "He's a skilled warlock. He's kind of like the top of his class. [That] is how I always saw him. He always excelled really well in all of his studies."

2. Sabrina showed him what love is (OMG) and he's into it
Witches and warlocks don't really dabble in love. Carnal desire? Oh hell yeah, but love is a bit of a foreign concept for teenagers brought up on the principles of lust. However, Sabrina's most intriguing quality to Nick is that she genuinely loves Harvey, her friends and her family and he wants to feel more of that.

"[Nick] becomes more vulnerable with Sabrina because she shows him that love is something that's real and it doesn't really exist in the witch world," Leatherwood explained. "[He]'s never known that as a witch, as a warlock. He's only discovered lust and passion. She shows him that there is something -- that love is something that is very powerful and that exists."

We'd love to see him discover that on-screen, to be honest.

3. He's even willing to risk his own life to prove it
When Harvey pushed Sabrina away after she tried to bring his brother back to life, Nick stepped up to help protect Harvey from the 13, who were brought back from the dead to collect the firstborns of Greendale. Nick would have been much safer hunkering down at The Academy of the Unseen Arts with the rest of the witches, but instead he stayed with Harvey at his unprotected house in the middle of Greendale to make sure nothing came to harm Sabrina's first love.

"[Nick's] motives become less about this physical attraction and this fascination, and more about this compassion for her struggle and this empathy for what she's doing and what she's going through," Leatherwood said. "I think that's really shown when he goes and helps out Harvey, who is just this mortal guy, but it's Sabrina's boyfriend and [Nick] is going go and protect him because Sabrina would want [him] to, because she asked [him] to and [he] really likes her."

How does that not spell out "ride or die?"

4. Nick understands Sabrina's true potential in a way that Harvey can't
Harvey is very sweet, but there's a whole side of Sabrina that he doesn't understand and frankly doesn't seem that eager to learn about. Nick, on the other hand, is enthralled with Sabrina's mortal half and the compassion she possesses for others. He also is well-versed in the witch world and history -- specifically hers. As a follower of Sabrina's father, former High Priest Edward Spellman, Nick would be a great asset in helping Sabrina figure out exactly who she is.

"[He] knows that she has this revolutionary kind of quality where she's this strong leader who will carry on that legacy of her father. The destiny of her path is so much greater than just starting a 'WICCA' club and making Harvey forget that she told him that she's a witch," Leatherwood said "There is just so much power that she contains, that Harvey, being a mortal, is so unfamiliar with and that Nick is well versed in."

5. They make a great *team*
Nick isn't just great for information -- he's also talented in the arts. So as Sabrina continues on her mission to destroy the Dark Lord, she's going to get into some scrapes where she needs back up. She needs a man that's going to help her succeed.

"It's a tough world out there battling the dark forces," Leatherwood offered. "She's gonna need a strong sidekick who also makes her heart pitter-patter, and I think Nick has those capabilities -- to make her feel something."
