Take those Manstead feelings and bury them deep, One Chicago fam.

Will (Nick Gehlfuss) and Natalie's (Torrey DeVitto) tumultuous romance has been over for months on Chicago Med, and the reality of their breakup is finally sinking in. It's hard, I know, but we'll all get through this. Especially since Wednesday's episode, titled "Never Let You Go," made it clear the pair is way past the "we used to bone and now this is awkward" stage and have emerged as amicable co-workers. That's a nice development, right?

The tense hour kicked off with the friendly exes making small talk over Natalie's trip to a wine festival with Phillip (Ian Harding) and that casual conversation is proof they've moved on with their respective new boos. It's a good thing they're over each other -- or at least have mastered the art of pretending they are -- because an emotional case involving a teen mom found them working together intimately and under extreme duress.

Natalie began work on a young girl whose labor was induced by a nasty car accident and was soon staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. The volatile father-to-be refused to accept his girlfriend's decision to give up their unborn child for adoption and held the ED at gunpoint in an effort to keep the baby. Sure, nothing says stable guy ready to take care of his family like shooting your girl's dad and inciting chaos in the process.

Elsewhere, Connor's dad (D.W. Moffett) continued his reign of terror by berating Garret (Heather Headley) over lack of profit growth. But the stress of being a terrible person proved to be too much and his rotten heart finally gave out because karma is, indeed, that bitch. I'm not a psychologist but I think the old man's perpetually hostile state might stem from the deep-seated trauma of being named Cornelius. Either way, he's lucky his son Connor (Colin Donnell) took those chest pains seriously. Cornelius was suffering from a heart attack and needed surgery immediately. But getting that proper treatment was impossible thanks to a 17-year-old with a gun who had all exits sealed off.

It was an emotionally-charged episode, one that pushed the doctors and nurses to their absolute limits. For Will and Natalie, the pressure was on to stabilize the teen mom, whose condition worsened during a difficult labor. Meanwhile, April (Yaya DaCosta) was forced to perform a dangerous medical procedure on a young boy while Ethan (Brian Tee) talked her through because Ethan had been handcuffed to a desk after trying to move in on the young gunman. But the hour really belonged to Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), whose soothing voice and calm demeanor kept the gunman in check. Reminding everyone just why she's in charge of the busy department, Goodwin convinced the unraveling teen to allow both his girlfriend's dad and Cornelius upstairs for surgery, deescalated the situation when SWAT moved in too quickly, and even managed to save the newborn child. A true hero.

How Antonio, Connor, and Ava Might Leave One Chicago

In the end, the gunman was taken out by snipers, but fortunately no other lives were lost. The girl's dad made it out of surgery just fine, as did Cornelius, who is living proof that evil never dies. Connor had Ava (Norma Kuhling) to thank for his father's second chance, not that he'll ever admit it. He's still bitter about the terrible things that happened in their relationship. To be fair, your girlfriend sleeping with your dad is a tough thing to get over.

But no one does moving on like Big Red himself, Will Halstead. After receiving major props from Natalie for running back into danger when he could have just bounced, Will played it cool and brushed it off as a dude having his friend's back. And in a case of perfect timing, FBI agent Ingrid Lee (Anna Enger Ritch) picked that exact moment to show up and tenderly rub Will's arm as a way of consoling him (but also staking her claim as his new lady friend). Given their previous encounter, in which Ingrid confided in Will about a tough case and he held her in his arms, these two are definitely on their way towards becoming official. I'm calling it now: Leestead is happening, whether you like it or not.

Chicago Med continues Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
