Magnum P.I. and Cagney and Lacey Might Get Rebooted Too

The reboot era of television doesn't appear to be coming to an end anytime soon! CBS has just ordered six new pilots contenting for the 2018-2019 season, two of which are reboots of CBS classics from the 1980s, according to Variety.

A new imagining of Magnum P.I.will be an updated version of the original series that follows Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home to Hawaii from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. CBS' resident revival guru Peter Lenkov (MacGuyver, Hawaii Five-0) is behind the project. Here's hoping he can get Tom Selleck, who played Magnum in the original series, to make a cameo!

CBS is filling out its lineup with some girl power too, thanks to a proposed reboot of Cagney and Lacey, which will follow the two, titular female detectives who pound the pavement in Los Angeles to solve crimes.

If CBS rebooting old shows sounds familiar, it's because the network announced it was developing a revival of Murphy Brown just two days ago. CBS' kid sister network The CW also revealed that a Charmed reboot was in the works (though not everyone is happy about that one).

As for the original ideas, CBS ordered pilots for drama Chiefs, about three female police chiefs in Los Angeles, and three comedies: Here Comes the Neighborhood, about a Midwesterner who moves to a rough neighborhood in Los Angeles, Fam, about a woman whose life is upended when her half-sister moves in with her, and Pandas in New York, about a family of Indian doctors in New York.
