Grant joined the show during its second season as a writer and co-executive producer. He is also an actor who played Anne Hathaway's father in The Devil Wears Prada and, as Russell Weller on thirtysomething, was one-half of one of the first recurring gay couples on television. The boss' office at Brothers & Sisters has had a bit of a revolving door: Original executive producer/showrunner Marti Noxon stepped down early in the first season due to conflict with creator Jon Robin Baitz. Greg Berlanti teamed with Baitz to finish that season, but Berlanti then left the show to develop other projects for the network. Baitz was replaced by Mark B. Perry, who ran the show until the writers' strike, when Breen and Shapker took over.
