Gunn, who recently won an Emmy for her performance on the hit AMC series, will play Detective Ellie Miller, portrayed on the original series by Olivia Colman. Miller is a happily married wife and mother who is looking forward to a promised promotion, but when the job goes to outsider Detective Emmett Carver (portrayed by David Tennant on both the original series and the Fox adaptation), Ellie is disgruntled. When tragedy strikes the sleepy seaside town of Gracepoint, Miller will work her very first murder case with her prickly new partner, forcing her to look at her hometown in a new light.
Weaver, a two-time Oscar nominee, will play Susan Wright, a mysterious new woman in town who lives in the RV park and works various odd jobs. Preferring to remain anonymous, Susan has a dark history kept fiercely hidden. Susan was portrayed by Pauline Quirke on the original series.
Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein will executive-produce the series alongside Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, who will also write the premiere episode. Shine America's Carolyn Bernstein and Jane Featherstone are also attached as executive producers.
Gracepoint is slated to go into production in January for broadcast in the 2014-15 TV season. Will you watch?
