Box Office: Guardians of the Galaxy Wins Labor Day Weekend

Guardians of the Galaxy retained the top spot at the box office over the Labor Day holiday weekend, which overall was the second-worst weekend for ticket sales of 2014, Box Office Mojo reports. The Marvel Studios film earned $16.3 million in its fifth week in theaters to become the highest-grossing film of 2014.

Guardians of the Galaxy retained the top spot at the box office over the Labor Day holiday weekend, which overall was the second-worst weekend for ticket sales of 2014, Box Office Mojo reports. The Marvel Studios film earned $16.3 million in its fifth week in theaters to become the highest-grossing film of 2014.

Holding on to the No. 2 spot was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with $11.7 million, and If I Stay held steady at No. 3 with $9.2 million.

The found footage horror flick As Above/So Below opened in fourth place with $8.3 million, edging out Let's Be Cops, which dropped a spot to No. 5 with $8.2 million.

The November Man, the new action film starring Pierce Brosnan, had a soft debut, finishing in sixth place with $7.6 million.

At No. 7 was When the Game Stands Tall, which earned $5.6 million in its second week in theaters.

Rounding out the Top 10 were The Giver (No. 8, $5.2 million), The Hundred-Foot Journey (No. 9, $4.6 million) and The Expendables 3 (No. 10, $3.5 million).
