In addition to the statement, China's consulate in New York revealed that the victim was a Chinese national, but at the family's request would not name her. The Boston Globelater reported that China's Shenyang Evening News confirmed the student was Lu Lingzi, a graduate student in mathematics and statistics at Boston University who was due to get her master's degree in 2014. More than 14,000 comments have been left on Lu's Weibo page, China's micro-blogging site.
