Prodigal Host Bob Saget Is Returning for a Dirty Version of AFV

Bob Saget became a late '80s/early '90s icon for playing Danny Tanner on Full House and hosting America's Funniest Home Videos, a clip show of babies falling down that was YouTube before YouTube. And like Bruce Springsteen said, everything that dies someday comes back, because Danny Tanner is back on Fuller House and Bob Saget is returning to the AFV franchise to host Videos After Dark, which will feature the videos too racy for AFV.

Variety reports that Videos After Dark will air Sundays at 10/9c on ABC next year and feature more adult-oriented videos than the family-friendly America's Funniest Home Videos. The tone will be more like Saget's filthy stand-up persona than his TV dad persona, and the show will be shot with a sort of "nightclub-style feel," which I assume means Saget will introduce and talk over the clips like he used to but the set will be made to look like the Comedy Store comedy club, with Saget in front of a red curtain and the studio audience dimly lit. The clips will be drawn from the franchise's archives, which by the time Videos After Dark airs will be 30 years deep. So get ready to see some blurred-out butts on ABC. Videos After Dark will not have the contest element on AFV. No money will be awarded; it's just for the lulz. It will not carry AFV branding so as to not sully that show's squeaky-clean image.

Saget hosted America's Funniest Home Videos for eight seasons from 1989 to 1997. After that, it went through many hosts until Tom Bergeron took over in 2001 and hosted until 2015. Alfonso Ribeiro is the current host. And now Mr. Dirty Work is back in the saddle.

In addition to green-lighting Videos After Dark, ABC has renewed the Alfonso Ribeiro-hosted AFV for another two seasons, which will bring the total up to 31. 31 years of guys getting hit in the beanbag.

America's Funniest Home Videos airs Sundays at 7/6c on ABC.
