Nicole Kidman's winning streak (Moulin Rouge, The Others) didn't carry over to her latest flick, Birthday Girl. Her new film grossed a hardly festive $2.5 million at the box office over the weekend — bad enough for an 11th place finish. Fellow newcomer Slackers didn't fare much better: The gross-out comedy debuted at No. 10 with $3 million. At the other end of the chart, Black Hawk Down was No. 1 for the third consecutive weekend.
