Better Call Saul: Which Breaking Bad Character Is Coming to Season 4?

One of the outstanding mysteries in the Breaking Bad universe will be answered in Better Call Saul's fourth season.

During Saul's Comic-Con panel, the show's producers revealed that the character of Lalo, who was briefly referenced by Saul (Bob Odenkirk) in his first Breaking Bad appearance, will surface in the upcoming season. Showrunner Peter Gould played the Breaking Bad scene with the initial reference for the Comic-Con audience before revealing that Sense8 actor Tony Dalton will play character in Season 4.

Lalo has been the topic of much speculation among Saul fans despite -- or perhaps because of -- only existing in what appeared to be a quick, throwaway mention in Breaking Bad's Season 2 episode "Better Call Saul," in which Saul makes his first appearance. In the scene, Walter (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) kidnap Saul and place him in front of a shallow grave. Searching to explain his predicament, Saul exclaims, "Oh no no no no. It wasn't me. It was Ignacio. He's the one!" He then asks, "Lalo didn't send you? No Lalo?" Once Walt and Jesse explain they're not him, Saul instantly relaxes -- indicating that Lalo is one BAMF not to be messed with.

While that was the only reference to the Lalo character for years, audiences now know that Ignacio refers to Nacho (Michael Mando), a key player in Saul storylines. At the end of Season 3, Nacho plays with fire after replacing Hector Salamanca's (Mark Margolis) heart pills with something else in an effort to kill or subdue the kingpin, which many believe leads to Hector's stroke that leaves him in a wheelchair in Breaking Bad. Gould and company did not reveal much context to Lalo's forthcoming appearances, but did show a photo of the character speaking with a wheelchair-bound Hector.

The news about Lalo softened the blow of news about who will not be appearing in Season 4 of Saul: Walter and Jesse. Producers confirmed that Jesse and Walt would not make an appearance in Better Call Saul this season, but were much more cagey about the possibility of Hank (Dean Norris) showing up.

Better Call Saul's fourth season premieres on AMC Sunday, August 6.
