Better Call Saul May End After Season 6

Bad news,Better Call Saul fans. The Breaking Bad prequel's days might be numbered at AMC!

In a recent interview with Collider, actor Giancarlo Esposito, who plays drug kingpin Gus Fring on the series, said that Better Call Saul will wrap up after Season 6. "It's tricky with [co-creator Vince Gilligan]," Esposito said. "If you look at the Breaking Bad model, he said five years, five seasons, but it was really five and six. ... There will be six seasons. It seems like that's the way, the comfortable way, to end this show."

AMC declined to comment on Esposito's remarks, but it does seem possible that Better Call Saul could wrap up its story in another couple of seasons. As the actor noted, it would be very similar to the run of Breaking Bad. Story-wise, it's also very clear that Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) story is much closer to its ending than its beginning at this point.

The show's fourth season saw Jimmy embrace the slippery persona of Saul Goodman. The season ended with Jimmy giving a passionate, on-the-verge-of-tears speech about his late brother Chuck (Michael McKean) -- something viewers were waiting for him to do all season -- in order to be reinstated to practice law. But it was all a performance. At the end of the finale, Jimmy was reinstated and said he couldn't believe how easily the board bought his sincerity. He then said he wanted to practice law under a new name.

The worlds of Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad are overlapping in major ways now, so yeah, we probably should start preparing ourselves for the end.

Better Call Saul is expected to return for Season 5 in 2020.
