Benedict Cumberbatch to Martin Freeman: Sherlock Fans Aren't Your Problem, Bro

Benedict Cumberbatch has a bone to pick with Martin Freeman right about now.

As you might recall, Freeman pretty much dashed any lingering hopes of a fifth season of Sherlock when he griped about how he didn't like doing the show anymore because of the wild expectations cast upon the show by its massive fanbase. He told The Telegraph, "People's expectations, some of it's not fun any more. It's not a thing to be enjoyed, it's a thing of: 'You better f***ing do this, otherwise you're a c***.' That's not fun any more."

But while Cumberbatch had some strong words on the subject to share as well, they were more directed at Freeman than Sherlock fans.

He told The Telegraph (via Entertainment Weekly), "It's pretty pathetic if that's all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of your reality. What, because of expectations? I don't know. I don't necessarily agree with that ... There's a level of obsession where [the franchise] becomes [the fans'] even though we're the ones making it. But I just don't feel affected by that in the same way, I have to say."

If Sherlock's fans were looking for a clue as to why the series is increasingly unlikely to continue with these two on-board as the title detective and Dr. Watson, well, look no further than these contrasting statements.
