Good Times Star Ben Powers Dies at 64

Remember other stars we've lost this year

Actor Ben Powers, who played Keith Anderson on CBS' Good Times, died earlier this month in New Bedford, Mass. He was 64 and no cause of death was given in the family's obituary.

Born Alton Powers in Brooklyn, he was raised in Providence, R.I. and attended the Rhode Island School of Design before pursuing a career as an actor and stand-up comedian and landing a role on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In.

Powers joined the cast of Good Times in its final season, playing the professional football player Keith, who was married to Thelma (Nanette Stanis). Stanis remembered Powers on Facebook earlier this week.

My condolences goes out to the family of Ben Powers who past a few days ago. He was a great actor and great friend who is gone too soon. He will be missed by many. Until next lifetime my friend.

Powers also played Moochie on Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer, opposite Stacy Keach, in the mid-1980s, but retired from acting shortly thereafter. His other film and television credits include The New Odd Couple, Laverne & Shirley and Cheech and Chong's Next Movie.

Powers is survived by his mother and two sisters.
