What happens when freshly minted SAG Award winners collide? To hear the  New York Daily News' gossip column tell it, NBC's acclaimed 30 Rock came away with an Oscar-winning guest star in Meryl Streep. The reality, however, has proven to be different.

As dished by the News' Gatecrasher page, in the midst of some Sunday-night, après-SAG revelry, Alec Baldwin invited a giddy Meryl Streep to appear on 30 Rock — and she supposedly accepted. "Meryl was delighted with the idea," an unnamed source told the paper. "She said yes immediately."

Baldwin's publicist has since responded to TVGuide.com's request for comment by saying that the fanciful tale is "not true," and that the exchange between SAG winners never happened.

The good news, though, for those who hoped to see Baldwin and Streep share a scene: At the very least, they will be working together this April, as costars of a new Nancy Meyers film.

Sorry to deflate your balloons, Rock enthusiasts, but the truth is the truth. Still, how would you have fit the venerable Meryl Streep into the Thursday comedy's manic mix?
