In the end, it was just too unlikely a love story to last. Bachelor in Paradise odd couple Tayshia Adams and John Paul Jones have decided to go their separate ways, Adams revealed in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Tayshia and JPJ met on Season 6 of Bachelor in Paradise this summer, where they charmed viewers with their easy chemistry. Tayshia is four years older than John Paul Jones, and audiences had expected her to go for someone more mature than JPJ, who has a goofy surfer-bro demeanor. But JPJ was completely enamored with Tayshia, and they struck up a relationship. She broke up with him toward the end of the season and they went home separately, but then she regretted her decision and went to his home in Maryland to ask him to give her another chance. He accepted, and they dated for a few months. Until now.

"John and I had something incredibly special," she wrote. "We fell for each other in Paradise, and everything was a whirlwind after that. When the show ended, I truly went back to Maryland to see if what we had was something we could build on without cameras, a production crew, and without feeling any pressure: to simply figure things out on our own terms. But the reality was, we were living on opposite coasts, and working insane schedules that made it impossible to see each other and build a life with each other. We truly did the best we could, but at this time have decided that what is best for the both of us is to go our separate ways. We are the best of friends and will continue to remain in each other's life because regardless of the situation, we make each other happy."

Two couples who got engaged on Bachelor in Paradise's season finale -- Dylan Barbour and Hannah Godwin, and Chris Bukowski and Katie Morton -- are all still together. Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty announced their breakup on Thursday.

The Bachelor Season 24 premieres Jan. 6 on ABC.
