Whoa, Did Bachelor in Paradise Just Make Us Feel a Genuine Emotion About John Paul Jones?

This season has truly been a roller coaster

It's the second to last episode of Bachelor in Paradise, and the last real episode before the engagements/ reunion special next week. I guess now is as good a time as any to tell you that Jacqueline Trumbull and I will do a very special Paradise mega-sode of A Beautiful Podcast to Fall in Love after the finale. I hope you'll check it out.

The episode began with people starting to feel the pressure of Paradise winding down. The kids were all thinking about who was going to get engaged and who was going to break up. Demi was having a particularly hard time, caught in an anxiety spiral about her relationship with Kristian. Demi's anxiety was affecting Kristian, and it was bringing them both down. They talked about their feelings, and it wasn't dramatic, just glum. They showed once again that they're the most authentic couple here.

Hannah got a date card, and when she and Dylan left, Clay predicted that they were going to get engaged. Maybe even get engaged on their date and get married on the last day. They went to a random child's birthday party, which was very weird. Whose kids are you picking up, Dylan? They don't know you at all! Hannah and Dylan told each other they love each other. Awww.

Back at the beach, Connor was talking about how the only woman he was into was Whitney Fransway from Nick's season, who he connected with at Chris and Krystal's wedding. He was hoping she would have come down the stairs by now, but she hadn't, so he might just go home. But methinks this was a set-up.

When the show came back from commercial, Connor was still sitting and waiting for Whitney, as the show cut to Whitney in a car on her way to Paradise. Whitney said they had an amazing conversation, and the show flashed back to their "amazing conversation," which was like "So like," "Yeah." The editors were making fun of them for being dumb! Connor said goodbye to everyone and left, and their cars passed each other on the road to Paradise. Whitney came down the stairs, and everyone started freaking out. They told her what happened, and she decided to just leave and catch up with him. She literally wasn't even there long enough to have a cup of coffee. She went to his hotel -- really nice hotel, by the way -- and they decided to spend some time together. He was shirtless. She's very tall, but she looks small next to him. They were already kissing. I hope they get married. What a story that would be.

Tayshia and JPJ were being cute, building sandcastles and watching the sunset. JPJ is sincerely falling in love with Tayshia, I think. But does Tayshia feel the same? IDK!

Nicole and Clay went on a date. They talked about the logistics of what their life outside Paradise might be. Clay lives in Chicago, while Nicole lives in Miami. But Nicole doesn't want to live in Miami anymore. She told him she was falling for him, and asked if she felt the same. He said he was starting to fall in love with her, but not in love with her. So now she's not sure if they're going to make it. You know, Nicole, you don't have to get engaged at the end of Paradise. You can stay together and just date for a while.

Tayshia wanted JPJ to put on his Speedo so she could draw him like a French girl from Titanic. It was funny. He wore his formal denim Speedo. I don't know if this is going to last, but it's cute for now. I think JPJ is going to be very heartbroken when Tayshia breaks up with him.

Katie and Chris were having some trouble. Katie wants a lot more emotional availability than Chris is giving her. And he's not convinced that this is the right thing.

Chris Harrison showed up and told the gang they were skipping the cocktail party and going straight to the rose ceremony. Luke offered his rose to Bri, and she turned it down. Brutal. "Well, this has never happened before," Chris said. "Is there anyone else who would like Luke's rose tonight?" No one stepped forward, so Luke went home. Aw, poor Luke. "It is what it is," he said, and sounded sincere in brushing it off. Bri took Matt Donald's rose. Angela took Chase's rose. I forgot about them! Never forget that Chase dated blonde right-wing personality Tomi Lahren. Sydney and Haley weren't picked. Sydney got very vulnerable about how tired she is of waiting for the right person. I feel you, Syd.

The next morning, Matt Donald felt like he made the right decision, but also like he did something wrong. Chris Harrison showed up unexpectedly and told them that last night was the last rose ceremony, and this day was about the remaining couples going on dates and deciding if they were going to stay together. Bri immediately dumped Matt. Chase dumped Angela. Tayshia was conflicted about her future with John Paul Jones. She didn't know she was going to have to commit or leave. (I don't recall that being a Paradise rule before. I think that's a new rule this season, but I might be misremembering.) She needs more time to deliberate.

Nicole is in love with Clay, but she has some insecurity about her relationship with him. They decided to go to the Fantasy Suite.

John Paul Jones told Tayshia that dancing with her at prom was one of the best moments of his life, and he hopes to dance with her on their wedding day. He's in love with her. She kissed him, but she didn't say it back. They embraced, and she started to cry. She said she wanted to get to where he was, but she wasn't there yet. She told him he doesn't even know what he wants in a partner. He was like, "Yes I do, I want you," but he accepted it. He walked away, and she ran after him, crying and apologizing. I'm not gonna lie to you, I teared up a little bit. He picked her up and carried her across the beach one last time. "I don't want you to go," she cried. "Bye, Tayshia," he said. She got in the SUV to take her to the hotel and flashed back to John Paul Jones reciting Shakespeare for her. He looked at the Polaroid of them together on prom night. Happier times, three nights ago.

Kristian and Demi went to talk about their relationship so more. They're really struggling. They're talking about their feelings very openly, but I'm not certain they're ready. Demi's anxiety is too all-consuming. "Are you all in?" Kristian asked her. Yes, she said, in so many words.

Chris pulled Katie aside and started to cry. "Is this happening? Is this happening right now? I don't want this at all," Katie said. Chris said this is what he does, he pushes people away. He's hot and cold with her. Katie was so confused. She said she didn't want to pressure him into doing anything he didn't want to do, but she wanted to be with him. He makes her happy. "I am difficult," he said, and for her to still be sitting here is a testament to the kind of person she is. They decided to stay the course and give it a shot. Well.

Next week is the finale. We'll see what happens. And we're gonna find out the next Bachelor!

Bachelor in Paradise's Season 6 finale airs Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 8/7c on ABC. The series is available to stream on Hulu.
