Arrow Just Brought the Lazarus Pit Back Into the Mix

Well, we certainly didn't expect Roy Harper's (Colton Haynes) epic return to the present storyline of Arrowto end this way.

The team's latest tangle with the Ninth Circle gave us a pretty awesome "whodunnit" episode, where Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) spent the night interrogating each member of the team about who killed two security guards found dead at the scene. Each person had a separate piece of the murder mystery puzzle, and each time we learned something new, it seemed like a different member of the team was responsible for beating the guards to death with a pipe.

Eventually, Oliver (Stephen Amell) told Dinah and the police that his sister Emiko (Sea Shimooka), who revealed herself to be the leader of the Ninth Circle, was responsible for their deaths, and all of Team Arrow was released. After they regrouped at the Arrow Cave, however, the real story came out. Roy Harper, who they'd called in to help with the op because he was a wild card Emiko and her crew couldn't predict, was the one to do the guards in when he lost his control in a violent rage. Oliver pulled him off the guards, but not before they were both dead. The team unanimously decided to protect him, getting their stories in order before talking to the police.

Now, if you think this is just some leftover Mirakuru craziness, then you're only half right.

Oliver could tell Roy's bloodlust was different than his Mirakuru rage, and Roy confirmed it. He revealed that on his quest with Thea (Willa Holland) and Nyssa (Katrina Law) to destroy all the Lazarus pits that popped up across the world last season, the Thanatos Guild killed him, ironically enough, by shooting him with an arrow. The next thing he remembered, Thea and Nyssa were destroying the pit, but they'd obviously tossed him in first so he could be resurrected. With magical resurrection comes bloodlust, we've all learned, and Roy's cannot be managed by Lotus Elixir, most likely due to the chemical changes that happened in his body thanks to the Mirakuru.

The team didn't have time to come up with a creative solution because Emiko popped up on their radar again. She lured them into a trap and then set off enough explosions to drop a building on them. Oliver's life was left hanging in the balance, but this dude still has a whole season of Arrow left to shoot, so he's probably fine.

At least we probably know why Roy will be secluded on Lian Yu 20 years in the future. If he can't control his bloodlust, a remote island might be the best place for him.
