Months after being unceremoniously dropped from NBC's Today show, Ann Curry has formally asked network executives to release her from her contract so that she can accept a "high-profile anchor position" at CNN, RadarOnline reports.

If Curry heads to CNN, her arrival will coincide with that of former NBC head and Today executive producer Jeff Zucker, who will become president of CNN in February.

"Ann wants out of her contract, big time," a source tells Radar. "She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network. However, NBC bosses have indicated they are unwilling to release Ann from the contract."

Curry's contract reportedly includes a non-compete clause, meaning that if she were to quit, she couldn't work for a competing news outlet for two years, Radar reports. But, Curry's attorneys are arguing that NBC violated the terms of the agreement by demoting Curry from Today last summer.
