The Cody family's wild ride isn't done yet in Animal Kingdom. TNT announced on Wednesday that it has renewed the edgy drama series for a fifth season, boasting that the series ranks among the year's top cable dramas.

Like the 2010 Australian movie of the same name, Animal Kingdom centers on a teen boy named "J" (Finn Cole), who is orphaned after the death of his mother and must move in with his estranged grandmother Janine, aka "Smurf" (Ellen Barkin), who also happens to be the head of the Cody crime family, consisting of herself and three sons, Pope (Shawn Hatosy), Craig (Ben Robson), and Deran (Jake Weary).

The most recent season saw Smurf re-cementing her status as the boss of the family, as J forged his own scheme to take control, along with flashbacks of a young Smurf and her original crew. Emily Deschanel also joined the show this year in her first post-Bones role as Angela, the troubled best friend of J's late mother, who was also Pope's twin sister. The Originals star Joseph Morgan has joined the show's fourth season for a recurring guest role as Jed, the brother of Colin (Grant Harvey) featured in those '70s flashback scenes.

Animal Kingdom airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on TNT.
