Even Simon Cowell isn't immune to getting emotional. During Tuesday night's quarterfinal round of America's Got Talent, the reality competition's toughest critic was brought to tears by father of six Michael Ketterer's stunning rendition of James Bay's "Us."

"As I dad, I can't imagine [doing] what you've done, and the fact that you're on this show and you really need this. You're a really, really special guy," Cowell told Ketterer, fighting back tears according to ET. "There's just something about you."

Although it's rare to see Cowell show this kind of vulnerability, it shouldn't come as a surprise that he would be touched by Ketterer's performance. Back in June, it was Cowell who hit the Golden Buzzer for Ketterer, giving him an automatic pass to the live shows.

Ketterer is a pediatric mental health nurse from East Tennessee currently living in Orange County, Calif. with his wife and six children. When asked what brought him to AGT, he said he wanted to show his kids that they, too, can follow their dreams. After this performance, it looks like he has a real shot at making it to the finals.

America's Got Talent airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
