First Look: The Americans' Texas Twang

Considering he plays KGB sleeper agent Philip Jennings on FX's spy thriller The Americans, Matthew Rhys is used to being in costume — from a Reagan-era suburban dad to the various guises his character assumes for missions. In the Season 2 premiere this February, the Welsh actor will go undercover as a Texan.

Considering he plays KGB sleeper agent Philip Jennings on FX's spy thriller The Americans, Matthew Rhys is used to being in costume — from a Reagan-era suburban dad to the various guises his character assumes for missions.

In the Season 2 premiere this February, the Welsh actor will go undercover as a Texan. "I had the boots and the hat," Rhys says. "I hope they bring him back — although the other day I heard my accent [on screen] and went, 'Holy s--t! In my head I sounded like a Texan."
