American Idol Moving to Wednesdays and Thursdays; Fringe Headed to Fridays

American Idol will move to Wednesdays and Thursdays next year as part of a major schedule revamp, Fox announced Friday.

Idol, previously on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, will kick off its tenth season with two-hour season premieres on Wednesday, Jan. 19 and Thursday, Jan. 20. The move allows Fox to leave ratings powerhouseGlee in its same Tuesdays-at-8/7c timeslot through the new year.

The new schedule also appears to renege Fox's announcement last May that the Idol results show would be cut from an hour to 30 minutes.

In order to make room for Idol on Thursdays, Bones will relocate to 9/8c, while Fringe will move to Fridays at 9/8c starting Jan. 28. The latter continues to struggle in the ratings since its move from Tuesdays to Thursdays last year.

The Good Guys, which is being replaced by Fringe on Fridays, has not been picked up for additional episodes, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly told Deadline.com. The same is true for freshman series Running Wilde, which will be replaced with the relationship comedy Mixed Signals starting Tuesday, Feb. 8. (Running Wilde's one-hour winter finale will air on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 9/8c, according to The Futon Critic.)

Shawn Ryan-created cop drama The Chicago Code will premiere Monday, Feb 7 at 9/8, as previously announced. And Breaking In, a comedy starring Christian Slater, will debut on Wednesday, April 6, immediately following 90-minute episodes of Idol.

After Idol premieres, Human Target will air at 9/8c on Wednesdays.

Fox orders Christian Slater comedy for midseason

Animated series, Bob's Burgers, will premiere on Sunday, Jan. 9 at 8:30/7:30c, moving The Cleveland Show to 9:30/8:30c. American Dad, the lowest-rated show in Sunday's Animation Domination lineup, will move to 7:30/6:30c the following week.

During the month of January, Fox will replace both Raising Hope and Running Wilde on Tuesdays with the new game show Million Dollar Money Drop.
