American Idol Top 8 Highlights: La'Porsha Shows Her Halo

Plus: Demi Lovato is really good and Trent Harmon and Sonika Vaid switch up their styles

This week was the first live American Idol of the season, and the Top 10 made their case to make it through to Top 8. Demi Lovato also stopped by. Hi, Demi Lovato! You're good at this! Not good enough were Olivia Rox and Gianna Isabella, who were sent home. They're very young. They'll be alright.

These were the best moments:

Demi Lovato
Lovato's group performance with the Idol girls was fine, but her show-stealing moment was an emotional solo performance of her new single "Stone Cold," a ballad that shows off her exceptional pipes. If she had ever competed on American Idol she would have won.

La'Porsha Renae
La'Porsha looked like an Idol winner Thursday night. The dress and the angel wing projection and the sparkly headand/'fro combo coalesced into the night's best visual presentation. The judges praised everything about her performance. She made a Beyoncé song her own, which is a pretty incredible feat.

Trent Harmon
My! Dude! Trent! Harmon! He finally (finally!) ditched the distracting hats and scarves and just went all-in on singing the best he can. That high note in "When A Man Loves A Woman"? He nailed it. Harry praised him for improving his vocal technique, while J.Lo straight up told him he and La'Porsha will be the final two.

Sonika Vaid
I actually didn't love Sonika's rendition of Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," but "Since U Been Gone" is the best pop song of the century thus far and so it's an automatic yes from me. I agree with the judges that her performance needed more oomph, but it was also pretty cool to see Sonika wear pants instead of a big dress for the first time.
