Chris Carter's big TV comeback is on hold again. The creator of The X-Files now has another ex-show (note the additional "e") on his resumé, and this one didn't even get to air before it was canceled.

Amazon decided it isn't moving forward with Carter's science-fiction drama series The After, almost 10 months after the network ordered it to series. The streaming video provider did not give any reasons for its decisions, only issuing a vague statement on the matter.

"We have decided to not move forward with The After," Amazon Studios vice president Roy Price said in a statement. "We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and production for all their efforts."

The After, which aired its pilot for the public last February as part of Amazon's pilot program, followed eight strangers who came together following an unexplained event that involved [is this a spoiler anymore?] aliens, or at least something creepy crawly.

While The After sputtered out, two other series that received orders at that time are still going strong. Family drama Transparent, which debuted in late September, made several critics' Best of 2014 lists, and Mozart in the Jungle, about the inner workings of the classical music business, premiered in late December.
