Alex Borstein Honors Holocaust Survivor Grandmother in Moving Emmys Speech

Alex Borstein took home the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy trophy during Sunday's 71st Primetime Emmy Awards for her outstanding work in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but it's her moving speech that won the night. After joking about not wearing underwear, the actress switched gears to dedicate her award to "the strength of a woman." In addition to honoring the show's creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, and the rest of the women who make up Maisel's cast and crew, Borstein paid tribute to her mother and grandmother, who both survived the Holocaust.

"They are immigrants, they are Holocaust survivors," Borstein said during her speech. "My grandmother turned to a guard. She was in line to be shot into a pit and she said, 'What happens if I step out of line?' He said, 'I don't have the heart to shoot you, but somebody will.' And she stepped out of line. And for that, I'm here. And for that, my children are here. So step out of line, ladies. Step out of line!"

This marks back-to-back wins for Borstein, who also won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy last year for the same role. This year, she beat an impressive group of actresses, including Betty Gilpin for GLOW, Sarah Goldberg for Barry, Olivia Colman for Fleabag, Kate McKinnon for Saturday Night Live, Sian Clifford for Fleabag, Marin Hinkle for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Anna Chlumsky for Veep.
