Alec Baldwin Invites Melania Trump to Saturday Night Live

Alec Baldwin's impersonations of Donald Trump have become a staple of Saturday Night Live in recent seasons, and now he wants to add even more authenticity to the role by bringing the real-life First Lady to the stage.

The actor wrote an open letter to Melania Trump on Twitter Saturday, the day after she visited a Texan detention center for some of the immigrant children who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border as unaccompanied minors or were separated from their parents by her husband's "zero tolerance" policy.

"Dear Melania- we know what you're thinking. What you're feeling. You are quaking w anticipation. Shuddering w a strange, newfound courage," he wrote. "Come. Come over to the light. We will welcome you as a hero in ways you never imagined possible. And then do SNL w me. Sincerely, Alec."

Baldwin then uploaded an old photo of himself standing beside Melania during a 2007 NBC Golden Globe after party event, which was also attended by Donald Trump and Baldwin's SNL and 30 Rock co-star Tina Fey. Baldwin added that there's a "chair waiting" for Melania in the SNL make-up room.

In the unlikely event she did accept the invitation, it wouldn't be the first time someone close to Trump has appeared as themselves on the sketch comedy series; adult film actress Stormy Daniels recently showed up in an episode's cold open to lampoon her own on-going legal action against the POTUS and his personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

For his part, Trump has not been pleased with Baldwin's impressions of him, openly lamenting the fact that Darrell Hammond is no longer handling them. However, there is reason to believe that Melania Trump has regarded the show's representations of her, courtesy of Cecily Strong, as favorable. Strong herself reported in February, "I heard through the grapevine that she watches the show, and she likes it."

No word yet on whether the FLOTUS will accept Baldwin's invitation, but if she did, it would certainly make for must-see TV.
