On Saturday Arthur Bloom, who not only helped start 60 Minutes ticking but donated the stopwatch that still is seen in the show's opening, died of cancer at the age of 63, the Associated Press reports. In addition to 38 years with the newsmagazine, the director prepped Dan Rather to replace Walter Cronkite as the anchor of CBS Evening News in 1981.
