Fox Won't Let 24 and Jack Bauer Die

The venerable franchise is getting retooled again

Network executives don't always have the clearest heads when it comes to their properties. I get it, they're attached to their babies. Case in point: 24, which was king of the world at one time, but then a mountain lion visited and it's never been the same since -- No matter how many times Fox tries to reboot it. It's the show we should be telling our grandkids about, but they'll probably be watching a new version with Jack Bauer IV fighting alien terrorists or something.

That's because it might not die. Fox has the blinders up once more, as it's looking to bring back the counter-terrorism drama... again, says Deadline. This time, the real-time gimmick will focus on the origin story of Jack Bauer (played in the original famously by Kiefer "Dammit!" Sutherland) as the world-saving hero makes his way up the ranks of terrorist murderers.

The original 24 ran for eight seasons, one made-for-TV movie (24: Redemption) and a miniseries (24: Live Another Day) from 2001 to 2014. The franchise was dug up for a whole new take, 24: Legacy, which was the first without Sutherland and Bauer and instead followed a new character played by Corey Hawkins.

Fox is reportedly still also working on a female-fronted 24, which we first learned of in November, that would take the series into the legal field for the first time. That's probably two too many 24 reboots, right?
