The 2018 Kentucky Derby will be the 144th running of Thoroughbred horse racing's most famous competition, and it's shaping up to be one of the most competitive derbies ever with no clear favorite at this point. So if you're the betting type, you'll definitely want to tune in. And even if you're not, it's still fun and there are plenty of ways to watch to help you get into it.
Coverage of the Kentucky Oaks, the race for fillies the day before the Derby, will air on NBC Sports from 12-6:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
Day-of Derby coverage will start at 12 p.m.ET on NBC Sports before switching over to NBC from 2:30 to 7:30. The race itself is scheduled for 6:46 p.m. ET. And it'll be less than two minutes long, so make sure you have your big hat on, your mint julep cooled and horse-inspired food in your feedbag when the horses line up at 6:34.
If you have cable but aren't at your TV, you can stream the race by logging into NBCSports.com or the NBC Sports app. If you don't have cable, you can stream it live by signing up for Hulu with Live TV, Playstation Vue or fuboTV.
The Race for the Roses will air live from Churchill Downs in Louisville. There will be 20 horses in the race (the entries will be announced May 1 at 11 a.m. ET on the Kentucky Derby's Facebook page), and the pot is $2 million. It's the first race of the Triple Crown, the most prestigious races in horse racing, which also includes the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes.
